Community Diabetes Forum
CEHDL will host its first Community Diabetes Forum on Saturday, May 20 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Learning Corridor in Hartford. During the morning, CEHDL will moderate a dialogue with Hispanic diabetics to better understand the challenges that they face dealing with health care access and behavior modification related to their nutrition and physical activity. This session will be followed by a cooking demonstration by Chef Odilia Donkor, and a series of afternoon workshops regarding foot care, vision care, heart disease prevention, and glucose monitoring. The community forum and the presentations will be in Spanish. Please encourage your Hispanic clients to attend. We also welcome faculty, graduate students, and health care providers who wish to learn more about this issue, and to help out with the event. Free lunch and parking will be provided. Event flyers are available in English (pdf) and Spanish (pdf). Contact person at the Hispanic Health Council is Sofia Segura (sofias@hispanichealth.com; 860-527-0856 (ext. 260)).
